Our adventure to Watersmeet: From source to mouth
Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the River Lyn, following its journey from the boggy moorland of Exmoor to its mouth at Lynmouth.
Our adventure began on the moors, where Sophie from Exmoor National Park explained what makes the bog such a special and important habitat. We discovered how it acts like a giant sponge, absorbing and holding rainwater, helping to slow the flow into the river and reduce the risk of flooding downstream in Lynmouth.
We then travelled to Hillsford Bridge to take part in river activities before continuing on foot, following the river’s journey down to Lynmouth. This gave the children a wonderful opportunity to see their geography learning come to life and observe how the river changes along its course.
A brilliant day of outdoor learning, discovery and exploration! A big thank you to Sophie for sharing her knowledge with us.
Harvest festival
Year 5 worked hard to prepare and perform songs and readings for our Harvest Festival at church. It was a lovely opportunity to come together and reflect on the importance of giving, sharing and being thankful for the food we enjoy.
Through our preparations and celebration, we considered how fortunate we are to have food available and why it is important to support those who have less. We also gave thanks to farmers and everyone who helps bring food to our tables.
Well done Year 5, for your enthusiasm and thoughtful contribution to this special celebration!
Youth Engagement
We’re delighted to welcome a local police officer into school to meet with our Year 5 pupils as part of our ongoing work around youth engagement and community safety.
The visits will take place half-termly, giving pupils regular opportunities to meet with a member of their local police team, learn more about the role of the police in our community, and ask questions in a friendly and informal setting.
These sessions will also support our children to understand how they can make positive choices, stay safe and build positive relationships with the adults and services in their local community.
We look forward to developing this positive relationship over the coming year and providing our Year 5 pupils with regular opportunities to engage, learn and connect with their local community.
