Year 6 Eden Project Visit
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our topic involving ‘Planet Earth’, we have organised an exciting trip to The Eden Project in Cornwall. The visit is booked for Tuesday 3rd March. Children should arrive at school before the normal time at 7.30 a.m. and we will return by approximately 6.00 p.m.
Children will walk around the Eden project in small, supervised groups and have a taught two-hour session (in two smaller groups) by an expert. The taught session will involve looking at the impact of climate change and what companies, like the Eden Project, are trying to do about it. This project directly links to the Geography work we will be looking at this term and will be really beneficial for the children. Additionally, we will be exploring the many rarities the project has to offer and will be using this opportunity to enhance our Science learning and as inspiration for our Art work.
All children should be dressed in their Southmead school uniform and can wear any shoes that are comfortable for walking. Please make sure your child wears sensible shoes (such as trainers or walking boots) as we will spend most of the day exploring the project. Additionally, please can all children bring a waterproof coat as we are intending to spend time outside. Your child will also need to bring a packed lunch with enough drink to last them all day (no sweets or fizzy drinks please) and a snack if required. Please indicate on our online form if your child requires a school packed lunch.
Any necessary medications (such as travel sickness tablets for the return journey) must be explained and handed to their teacher/ Mrs Fallowfield, with the correct medical forms filled in (available from our Office Staff), before the coach departs. Please ensure that your child does not bring any electronic equipment with them on the trip (such as mobile phones or cameras). However, they may choose to bring something to entertain them during the coach journey such as a book, pack of cards or paper and pencils.
We are fortunate to have applied for and received funding through a grant scheme from the Fullabrook Windfarm development. Previously, they have supported our Eden Project trip and have given us a £5 donation for each pupil – this year their contribution has generously increased to £7.50. This has reduced the cost of the trip from £20.50 to £13.00 per pupil. Whilst this is a voluntary contribution, the trip is costed on the basis of everyone paying. If we do not have enough
contributions to cover the cost then unfortunately the trip may have to be cancelled. If you have any difficulties paying, please speak to Mr Plumb in confidence. Payment online also gives parental permission for your child to attend.
We would appreciate some help with the trip so if you have completed our Volunteer Process and are available, please let us know via our online form.
We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable trip.
Yours sincerely, Miss Kenshole and Mrs Da Silva
